2021 Sun Chardonnay

A rare white wine in our Celestial Series lineup, the Sun is typically a blend of Chardonnay vineyards throughout our most favorite region in the Russian River Valley, the Green Valley.  Climate here is defined by the fog, blowing north through the Petaluma Gap and eventually settling in the Valley.  This creates cool mornings, but then the fog burns off and gives way to sunshine in the afternoon, a diurnal dance that keeps acid pretty and flavors delicious.  The 2021 is crafted from a blend of five vineyards, but one is located in the Alexander Valley, a first for us in what is traditionally all Russian River Valley fruit.  For good reason though, because the contribution to the style we target for this blend fits quite harmoniously. 

Aromatic notes of honeycomb, caramel, fresh orange, and vanilla custard dominate the nose.  The palate is decidedly elegant, with zippy acidity popping into focus and supporting fruit notes lemon bar, green apple, and a hint of papaya.  The finish carries more strong acidity, vanilla wafer, and pleasantly burnt toast.
