Less than 15 mi from the Pacific Ocean the Ivywood vineyard is heavily influenced by the same natural forces that influence our Northern California coastline. The vineyard sits at 800 ft, with multiple row aspects, creating complexity and character. Due to its proximity to the coast, the vines struggle every year to ripen, and as a result, waiting for the right time to pick can be quite painful! That being said, our patience is almost always rewarded, and although the Chardonnay is always one of our last picks of the year, it's always one of our most interesting wines.
Blending new world sensibilities with an old-world soul, the 2017 Ivywood Chardonnay is as complex as it is tasty. Notes of spice and fruit and minerality find themselves in harmonious tension. The nose has a pleasant oiliness that compliments flavors of honey graham and freshly baked apple pie. The palate is warm, with more notes of green apple, French toast, and glazed white peach. The finish uncovers wet stone, accompanied by notes of focused fruit, pie crust, and toast.
