VML 2018 San Remo Pinot Noir
Brooding spice, baked bread, and dark berry fill the nose. Medium-to-heavier in body, the mid palate tannin took its sweet time in the young and awkward stage, but has finally turned the corner and is now so glassy, soft, and smooth. Both ripe bright strawberry and darker blackberry notes carry the fruit portion of the midpalate, creating a pleasant intersection with barrel inspired caramel, coffee grounds, and chocolate. The finish is initially a bit unruly, with acid and berry fruits and tannin all fighting for the spotlight. Give these characters a few minutes of air time, and the end result bears harmony and length.
