The 2019 is our last vintage of Starscape, a bittersweet ending for sure. This is arguably the vineyard that started VML, and we are so fortunate to have worked with it for so long.
The fruit is always powerful and rich, and the 2019 is no different. The nose is dark fruit and spice, typical of previous vintages of Starscape wines. We chose to make this wine out of clone 667, which grows on a western-facing hillside above the rest of the vineyard. It’s our favorite block and produces tiny berries with big fruit concentration. The palate pushes silk and transfers the fruit and earth notes forward, creating excellent symmetry. The finish is quite long, and carries just the right combination of acidity and fruit.
